Today’s Very Stupid Annoyance

The fact that the stupid often think they’ve “won” arguments because the more intelligent person walks away when it becomes clear that they’re arguing with a moron.

For instance, there is no point in arguing with someone who claims you’re the intolerant one for not accepting their bigotry or absurd judgement of others. They clearly have not even heard of the paradox of intolerance and almost certainly have no interest in learning. They are simply an idiot and will remain so until circumstances force them to be otherwise.

Walking away at that point, however, leads the idiot to believe they’ve won with their absurd response. It’s the only sensible action, but it’s one that encourages the stupid to remain stupid. I almost wish there were some sort of response that equates to “Your response was not a “gotcha”, you have simply demonstrated that you are too dumb to continue speaking to.”

Unfortunately, saying that directly would only further the argument and be a monumentally stupid thing to do. So the idiocy continues unabated.

I mean…couldn’t hurt, right?

Seriously debating looking into how to best test paradoxical injunction therapy on K. I suspect he’s just too obstinate and logical thinking for it to work, but it’s not like anything else is helping either and it’s not likely to hurt. Worst case scenario, we waste a few minutes feeling dumb.

Fun times with late night anxiety

Tonight my anxiety has decided to focus on fear of fires. I went to do some searching to remind myself that the likelihood really is quite low—and while that is true year by year (something like 100,000 fires in multifamily units across the US every year, with 43 million+ multifamily units nationwide), either I’m doing my math wrong or the stats for being in an apartment fire if you live in apartments for 60 years are not reassuring.

Of course, I’ve wildly simplified the math because it’s 3 in the morning, so that’s a large factor. Things like building age, maintenance, location, fireplaces, etc. all make huge differences in rates. And the single biggest risk factor is cooking, which neither I nor my neighbours are likely to be doing at this time of night. So, really, the chances are still incredibly low. Far higher odds of car accident, earthquake (not reassuring lol), or heat stroke. Biggest health risk at the moment is just not getting sleep due to anxiety. So, like, really not worth worrying about.

Yet here I am
